Vision: Our vision is to be an organization dedicated to a healthy community where Indigenous people, through family, community and cultural support, reflect pride, respect and self-esteem in realizing their individual potential.

Programs offered:

Early Learning

Atan Head Start and Opokaa’sin Kindergarten program provides 6 core areas of programming: education and school readiness, Aboriginal culture and language, parental involvement, health promotion, nutrition, and social support. Atan Head Start and Kindegarten program directly involves parents and the community in the management and operation of projects; parents are supported in their role as the child’s first and most influential teacher, and the wisdom of Elders is valued.

Both the Atan Head Start Program and the Kindergarten have the capacity to accommodate up to 30 children, classes are half day and offered Monday through Thursday.

Childcare

Opokaa’sin Childcare Program philosophy is to ensure Aboriginal Families with children grow up healthy and reach their full potential. Providing Aboriginal children a positive sense of themselves, a desire for lifelong learning, and opportunities to develop into successful young people.

The Childcare Program is licensed for a total of 53 children from ages 19 months to 5 years old, we are also designated an Early Learning and Child Care Centre that offers affordable $25/day childcare services.

Family Preservation

Opokaa’sins’ Family Preservation program was created in 2002 and is a closed referral through Child Protection services for parent and children, youth mentorship for Aboriginal children in foster care, transportation and supervised visits. All services must have a referral and evaluation from a Children Services authority.
